Time to put a stop to these ridiculous bank fees
I APPLAUD the Consumer Association of Penang and The Star for bringing to the attention of the Malaysian public the fees and charges levied by our banks on their customers.
I appreciate the details provided by The Star on these ridiculous charges. I was not even aware of the full extent of these charges and I am outraged.
I recount a recent incident. I made a trip to my bank to deposit some cheques and to make a withdrawal.
An employee at the queue-number machine queried me on the nature of my transactions. When told, he refused to give me a number and directed me instead to some ATMs.
Here we have a bank, which uses our money to make hundreds of millions in profits, refusing personal over-the-counter services and charging us for usage of ATMs and online services.
How bad can banking get?
I am glad Bank Negara is finally waking up to this nonsense. But it is really rather late.
How did the public get exploited by greedy banks to this extent without most people even being aware of it?
