PETALING JAYA: Consumers should boycott shops and tip off the authorities if they feel traders have unreasonably raised their prices, said Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (Fomca) secretary-general Muhammad Sha'ani Abdullah.
“They should boycott the outlets if they feel that the operators have blatantly victimised them such as giving discounts for one item and overcharging on the rest.”
Muhammad Sha'ani said consumers should lodge detailed reports against such traders so that other consumers would be aware and avoid being cheated.
He said Fomca was waiting for the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry to announce the new ceiling prices for the festive season before it monitored traders' activities.
Shoppers, he said, should make a list of items they want to buy to avoid spending unnecessarily during the festive season.
“Check prices before buying and shop early to avoid shortages, price increases or other effects arising from the festive seasons.
“We must remember that we're not just going into one festive season but a consecutive series of celebrations,” said Muhammad Sha'ani
